02
Why should I hire a licensed electrician instead of a handyman?

Some people try to save money by hiring a handyman. However, most handymen are not licensed electricians and may not have formal training in electrical systems or electrical code requirements.

Electrical work must meet safety and building code standards. If wiring is installed incorrectly or unsafe repairs are made, it can lead to electrical hazards such as fires, damaged equipment, or shock risks.

A licensed electrician understands how to diagnose electrical problems properly and ensure installations meet current safety codes.

03
Why is my GFCI outlet not working?

A GFCI outlet (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) shuts off power when it detects an electrical imbalance that could cause a shock hazard. This often happens in areas where water may be present, such as kitchens, bathrooms, garages, or outdoor outlets.

If a GFCI outlet trips, it may stop working until it is reset.

04
How do I reset a GFCI outlet?

First unplug anything connected to the outlet.

Next press the Reset button on the outlet. On many newer GFCI outlets, the reset button is red while the test button is black. Older outlets may have the reset button located at the top.

When the outlet resets, you should hear a click and power should return.

If the outlet continues to trip after resetting, there may be a deeper electrical issue that should be inspected by a licensed electrician.

05
Why is my light switch not working?

If a light switch stops working, first check whether the light bulb itself has burned out.

If the bulb is not the issue, possible causes include:

• A broken switch mechanism
• A blown fuse or tripped breaker
• A loose wire connection
• A faulty electrical circuit

Most of these problems can be diagnosed and repaired quickly by a licensed electrician.

06
Why does half of my home not have power?

If only part of your home has power, it is often caused by a main breaker problem or a phase loss in the electrical service.

Possible causes include:

• A tripped main breaker
• A blown fuse in the electrical service
• A damaged or disconnected wire
• A thermal overload in the electrical system

This situation should be inspected by a professional electrician because it may involve the main electrical panel or service wiring.

01
What should I do if my breaker keeps tripping?
A breaker that trips repeatedly usually indicates an overloaded circuit or an electrical fault. Turning the breaker back on repeatedly without fixing the issue may create a safety hazard. A licensed electrician should inspect the circuit.
02
Can electrical problems cause fires?
Yes. Faulty wiring, overloaded circuits, and damaged electrical components can create heat buildup that leads to electrical fires. Proper installation and maintenance help reduce these risks.
03
How do I know if an outlet is unsafe?
Outlets that feel warm, spark when plugging in devices, or show burn marks should be inspected immediately. These symptoms may indicate loose wiring or overloaded circuits.
